While roofs are primarily intended to protect you from environmental elements like snow, wind, pollution, and rain, they are also very important in controlling the interior temperature of your building. Hence, it is essential you look into energy efficiency before choosing a roofing material. Preferably, you would want materials that are aesthetically pleasing while able to save you some energy.
If your roof is flat, it must be sealed so that water does not leak into the structure. The best solution for this is adding synthetic membranes. These membranes can effectively seal your roof and make it completely leak-proof. What’s more, they are much easier to install when compared to asphalt roofs and metal roofs. Synthetic membranes are of three types, including thermoset membranes, thermoplastic membranes, and modified bitumen.
Thermoset membranes are made of flat, large pieces of synthetic rubber (a highly efficient elastomer) and are chemically bonded at the seams to make one continuous membrane. Common types include EPDM, CR, ECR, and CSPE. Thermoplastic membranes differ in how they are bonded. With thermoplastic membranes, individual pieces are typically welded or heat fused to make one continuous membrane. Common thermoplastic membranes include PVC ( polyvinyl chloride ). Modified bitumen is an evolution of asphalt, made of asphalt constituents and a range of solvents and rubber modifiers. These 3 membranes are more advantageous than formerly common roofing types gravel and asphalt.
